Rond Pond Cabernet 2006

So, when you think of Napa you think of Cabernet, right?  And when you think of Cabernet, you think of Rutherford, right?  Well you should.  Rutherford has the rare combination of perfect conditions which produce, year in, year out, some of the best Cabernet wines in the world.  Sun exposure, temperature, soil, drainage and a host of other factors come together to create Cabernet's ideal home.  Smack dab in the middle of all that you find Round Pond.

The 2006 Estate Cabernet is a benchmark effort from this producer.  The wine has broad shoulders, and is tightly wound, with deep dark fruits.   The nose is pure Cab.  Aromatically, it is awesome.  We had this bottle over the course of two days and it showed well on day two.  There is deep minerality which is seamlessly woven into a palate that has a great balance between acidity, big ripe, woody tannins and a dark fruit profile that combines cassis, blueberry preserves, cola and coco.

I am very glad to have some of this in the cellar.  It will continue to improve for the next 5-10 no problem, and will hopefully be a show stopper whenever I decide to dig one out.
