2009 Cantina Tollo, Pecorino, Abruzzo

I know what you are thinking; what is this guy talking about?  The title doesn't give too much away.  The producer is Cantina Tollo, the grape varietal is Pecorino, and the region is Abruzzo.  Now for the second part of the question, isn't Pecorino a cheese?  Yes.  It is also a variety of grapes that Cantina Tollo produced into a lovely wine.

According to another blog post, this is an Italian cooperative that produces a significant amount of wine.  They are responsible for salvaging the varietal from extinction and producing a wine that is totally worth drinking and in my opinion is better than most Pinot Grigio's that are commercially produced and imported.

NOTES: This wine has floral and lifted aromatics that consist of bright citrus notes, zest of orange peel and astringent green beans.  The palate has a waxy texture and orange blossom liqueur flavors.  It is rich, medium to full bodied and has nice white stone minerality in the back of the palate.

If you can find it, drink it.  If you are in Santa Barbara, you can get it at Olio Pizzeria.
