2006 Stony Hill Chardonnay

Stony Hill has gotten its reputation for making great wines, transparent wines, and geeky wines because that is exactly what they do.  Sommeliers have been big supporters of this label for the last decade or two.  As a result you can find this label on many important wine lists throughout the state and country because of this wines purity and lack of... big oak?  Consider this a good example of how to begin your search for Chardonnay where oak is not one of the primary characteristics in the flavor profile.  In other words, get ready to take your training wheels off.

NOTES: Bright but subdued nose showing nectarine and peach fruits.  The palate is weighty but clean and balanced showing waxy citrus notes, and rich texture that is accompanied by a slightly oxidized feel to the flavors.  With that said there is no hint of the wine being leezy or lazy, it is somehow crisp and shows river stone minerality.  Great wine to drink and enjoy with friends and or food.
