2008 Star Lane Sauvignon Blanc

Star Lane Label from a 2007 bottle

This wine was made with cultured yeast from Bordeaux, which makes it an exception to most of the wines produced at Star Lane and Dierberg that utilize native yeast.  The nose shows savory chicken stock, lemon curd and lemon fruits.  It has less high tone notes which can most likely be attributed to the fact that some of the wine was barrel fermented.  The palate has great texture and density, showing light lemon and pink grapefruit with white rock minerality.  It is a very clean and refreshing wine with great acidity and balance.  It is a true to form and unapologetic Sauvignon Blanc, which I appreciate.  Many producers have tried to turn Sauvignon Blanc into a more 'engineered' wine that is fatter on the palate and drinks more like a chardonnay... this isn't a wine trying to be something else.
